“A return to the natural world is key to the thinking behind The Hub”

Making the Choices
The Aplat range of paints are carefully chosen in natural colourways – the names themselves (Les Vegetales, Les Terrestres, Les Celestes) evoke what can be found in the natural world. They give a depth and stability of colour which has a filmy finish and which changes intensity in different lights. We are not restricted to the Aplat range of paints. Farrow and Ball, or the wide range of colours from Dulux could also be used.
As a starting point
Five different colourways were chosen for the painted exterior of the Hub, ranging from soft corals and reds through to forest greens and muted blues and greys – the colours found in the world around us which can give a sense of calmness, serenity or vibrancy: different moods making the working environment an inspirational one. The base colour of ‘Veloute’ (a neutral cream) gives a rich, creamy backdrop to accentuate the other colours.

The right fabric –
a natural choice
The same care and attention to detail has been the focus in making appropriate fabric choices. Camira Fabrics specialise in using natural wools, flax, hemp and jute to create fabrics which are not only strong and durable but also pleasingly soft to touch. They pride themselves on creating fabrics which are renewable and recyclable. Wool used by Camira can be traced back to individual sheep farms in New Zealand; the flax and hemp which are mixed with wool are sustainable resources which have been successfully used for thousands of years. The fabrics from Camira, using a mix of wool, hemp, flax, jute and even nettle, are woven in a mix of rich jewel tones with softer, naturally inspired shades. Their natural ingredients have been blended to create high quality fabrics, with colour design inspired from the stunning Yorkshire moors to the cultural designs of nomadic tribes.

The Natural World
The emphasis on natural beauty with ecological ideals sits well with the whole concept of The Hub.
A return to the natural world is the cornerstone of our concept and it is our mission to source accessories which uphold this thinking. In choosing the paints from Aplat and the fabric from
Camira we believe we have found companies committed to natural choices.
The Colourways
People are exceptionally receptive to visual cues: colour can be a powerful psychological trigger and it can be an effective tool to encourage learning and educating, communicating and marketing.

‘Les Sanguines’ – Corals and Reds
‘Murano’, a vibrant coral red, teamed with the softer more dreamy ‘Boudoir’ creates a shot of rich colour to awaken the senses and inspire the mind. It has a visual impact suggestive of warmth and energy, creating a stimulating working environment.

‘Les Vegetales’ – Forest Greens
Green is a colour which traditionally creates harmony and balance. Possibly the most abundant colour to be found in nature, in a multitude of tones and shades, it is regarded as a refreshing and reassuring colour. Green strikes the eye in a way that needs no readjustment: when the world around us contains plenty of green it indicates the presence of water so on a very primitive level we feel reassured.

‘Les Encres’ – Blues
Blue calms the mind and aids concentration. It is essentially a soothing colour associated with
serenity, reflection and peace. The sea and the sky are our definition of the ultimate blues
in their many nuances. They suggest expansiveness, imagination and endless possibility.
The depth and variety of blue is endless.

‘Les Encres’ – Soft grey/Green/Blue
The soft greeny-grey of ‘Celadon’is almost like an eau-de-nil colour. ‘Embruns’ adds depth and intensity and the two shades together introduce colours on a grey palette which is both contemporary and chic. Blue-greys and green-greys are easy to work with and combine well with bolder tones.

‘Les Terrestres’ – Yellows
The right shade of yellow can lift our spirits and our confidence, Essentially stimulating, yellow is the colour of optimism. Aptly named ‘Les Terrestres’ (earth colours), this palette from Aplat veers towards the browns and yellows found in stone and soil – easy on the eye and rich in tone!
